Good Friday. A special day to remember that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. God became flesh and bore our punishment. The Bible says the punishment inflicted on Jesus was so great that you could not even recognize Him as a man. They pulled His beard from His face. Whipped Him. Stripped Him to shame Him and cast lots for his clothes. Beat Him. Spit on Him. Made Him carry a rugged cross up to the mountain where they nailed Him to it. In the midst of the excruciating torment He said “Father Forgive them for they know not what they do”. In bearing it all, He accomplished His purpose as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. It is a somber day but not one without hope. Three days later He would rise, conquering both sin and death. Good Friday is good because it leads to Easter Sunday. The celebration of new life.
