Hearing God

Hearing GodLast week was really trying for me.  I came up against a lot of criticism from within my own family and within my own church family for this blog.  As I mentioned {here}, I do not fit neatly into any particular category and this sometimes disappoints people who expect me to do so.  I got up early on Saturday and spent some time in prayer.  I asked God to show me how to deal with my critics in the way he would have me to.  I asked him to give me the words to say to them because I wanted above all else for this blog to bring him glory.  I opened my Bible to Romans, where I had been studying the past few weeks and it was like God’s message of Grace was just pouring out as a reminder to me.  It was as if these ancient words were written just for me that very morning and I knew exactly how He wanted me to respond… with love. With forgiveness.  With peace.  So that was exactly what I did. It is amazing to me how faithful God is to speak to us when we take the time to hear him.

This is what He said:

“through the grace given to me I say to every man among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think.” Romans 12:3

“let love be without hypocrisy” Romans 12:9

“Bless those who persecute you. Bless and curse not” Romans 12:14

“Do not be haughty in mind but associate with the lowly” Romans 12:16

“Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. If possible be at peace with all men” Romans 14:17

“Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good” Romans 12:21

“For even Christ did not please himself; but as it is written, “the reproaches of those who reproached me fell upon Thee” Romans 15:3
