One of the things I love most as I travel around is being exposed to different food trends. For the past few years, Ramen has been trending, which I found very hard to believe since my only experience with Ramen had been the $0.20 instant packages we’d eat for dinner growing up. Turns out, there’s a lot more to Ramen and Katanaya in San Francisco gets it right. I wandered over there on a recommendation from the hotel concierge and it was this tiny little hole-in-the-wall Japanese restaurant with a line out the door of folks waiting to be seated. I ordered the “Katanaya Ramen” which came with sliced pork, fried chicken and a hard boiled egg. It was a very satisfying meal for a cold San Francisco Summer night.
