Jeff completed his “Off the Wall” series Sunday with LEAD Courageously. You can listen to the sermon [here]. It was such an encouraging sermon for me personally because I so often feel as if I am not really doing anything for God with my life because I am not in ministry full time like my husband. I am in media and I spend more time in business meetings and on airplanes than I do in churches. Jeff referenced Os Hillman’s notion that there are “7 Mountains of Influence” that shape the culture of every nation. They are: Arts & Entertainment, Media, Education, Business, Government, Religion and Family. The message was that we have each been given the “ministry of reconciliation”. Reconciliation to God and reconciliation to each other. We are to be ambassadors of that reconciliation and God needs ambassadors in every mountain of influence. I was so happy to be reminded of that. Just because I am in Media does not mean I am not useful to God. The Old and New Testaments of the Bible are the story of God’s redemption of this world. Jesus was taking up the storyline once and for all and making it possible for everyone to come to repentance as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. But how will the world know this good news unless someone tells them? Jesus said “As the Father sent me, so I send you”. I am to be an ambassador of the Good News that Jesus Christ has paid the price to reconcile us back to God. He is the bridge over the vast separation between us and God caused by our sin. Because of Christ, we are no longer strangers but sons and daughters of the promise, first to the Jew and then to the Gentile. Like the Samaritan woman Jesus met at the well who told everyone in her village what Jesus had done for her, I have a story to tell. I will share my story. I will lead courageously.
