Week of Prayer

CardsEvery year our church hosts a “Week of Prayer” where we get back to basics and nightly gather together to seek God for our families, our neighbors, our community, our nation and our world. Each night has a different focus. One of the nights Jeff handed out 4 playing cards to everyone. A heart, a spade, a diamond and a club, each representing a different aspect of our lives to focus our prayers around. The club represented those things that we have been fighting against in our lives. I prayed that God would change me into the woman he created me to be, not someone who is easily angered or unforgiving, which are often the things I struggle with most. The spade represented those things we need to dig deeper into. I prayed for power to be light and salt in the world around me. The heart represented things we love, that are precious to us.  I prayed for my husband to be in health and strength this year.  The diamond represented the things we long for. I long for Grace to be healed of Leukemia and for Luke to grow in faith and maturity.  These are my deepest prayers right now, the cries of my heart so I pray them with all my might.  God desires a relationship with us and sometimes our struggles are what drive us to a dependence upon Him . What I find is that whenever I am helpless and broken with my prayers before Him, I end up ever closer in my relationship to Him, which is the point of prayer.  As I go to God with my requests, I am communicating what I want but He knows what I need- that is a closer walk with Him.

The Cross

{“All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him. And stand in awe of Him, all you descendants of Israel.  For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted. Neither has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard”  Psalm 22:23-24}
